Over a hundred tenants at 1440 and 1442 Lawrence Ave W have been on rent strike against Barney River Investments since October 1st. As the rent strike continues into its fifth month, tenants rallied outside of the Barney River property management office this afternoon and served notice that they will be filing against Barney River at the LTB for tenant rights abuses and serious breaches of their maintenance obligations.
Yesterday, tenants from York South-Weston joined friends and allies from across the province at Queen's Park.
From wages that aren’t keeping up, to sky-high housing costs, to longer and longer hospital wait times, Ontarians deserve better. On the one-year anniversary of Doug Ford’s re-election, we took to the streets to say: ‘enough is enough!’

We know that when working people come together, we win.
The rally had five key demands:
- real wage increases
- keep schools and health care public
- affordable groceries, gas, and basic goods
- rent control and affordable housing
- make banks and corporations pay
It was fantastic marching with friends and supporters from across the city. This is what solidarity looks like!
